The Bay Leaves is a small hostel recently acquired by Mark, an ex London restaurant chef & Sandra, who is a local girl. It is in a quiet residential area, some 10 - 15 mins stroll into town over Rio Verde, and boasts ample private parking and a gorgeous pool with views over the town towards the west. The living accommodation is set against the side of a hill, so is shielded from the heat of the summer sun, which keeps the rooms nice & cool, while the large sun terrace and swimming pool enjoy the sun all day.
The accommodation is arranged as a double room (with optional sofa bed) downstairs, with a further three rooms upstairs (two doubles & one twin bedded) with a nice veranda running their length. These are connected to the pool by a feature walkway.
The rooms are well furnished & decorated in typical Andalucian style and all have modern shower bath rooms en suite. Satellite television is provided as well. The rooms do not have full self catering cooking facilities (lacking cookers & separate sinks) but are equipped with a large fridge, tea & coffee making facilities and all the basics required such as chopping board & cutlery to to make a light snack / cheese supper to enjoy on the terrace with a cold drink.
A light breakfast is served downstairs in the dining area adjacent to reception. Lunches or evening meals are unfortunately not available for the summer 07 season, as Mark is busy updating the restaurant, the opening of which is eagerly anticipated! However, meals are easily taken in any of the huge range of restaurants Almuñécar boasts, or simply do as the locals do & stroll from tapas bar to tapas bar enjoying the evening air and sampling the local fresh fish, or Andalucian specialties.
Plentiful secure parking is available on site, so this is a good pick for self drive clients as it is a good base from which to explore. Bay Leaves is competitively priced and is ideal for our more budget conscious clients, who may not desire the facilities of a fully featured hotel.
