Spain has an excellent climate and geography for canyoning.
Canyoning is
very popular and immensely exhilarating sport, as well as an excellent way
to really get out and about in the countryside and see the best of Andalucia !
Canyoning involves navigating down a water course by a combination of walking, climbing, swimming, abseiling, jumping and generally scrambling down the river & its banks.
It is suitable for pretty well all ages, though you should be fit and agile enough for a couple of hours of scrambling in and around flowing water, be a competent swimmer and not be of too nervous a disposition when it comes to jumping into pools of water from natural surroundings!! Check out the end of Jacob's video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SnguY9Ta7ZY (the jumps at the end are optional !!)
Our chosen site at Rio Verde is close to Almuñécar and is a well established canyoning site with a good water supply for
most of the year,
as well as being set in the stunning surroundings of a designated natural park.
The site consists of a series of pools linked by small rivers, waterfalls and chutes, down which we slither and splash. It's absolutely brilliant fun!
