Excursions to Melilla, Morocco, North Africa

Coming very soon!

The ferry company, Balearia, has announced plans for a new ferry service between Motril and Melilla on the Moroccan coast in North Africa.  This is planned to commence summer 2008.  Trials have already taken place successfully on voyage timings between Motril & Melilla, as well as trials for the docking procedures and processes in both ports.

It is planned to operate a traditional ferry all year, with an additional high speed service being offered in the high season.  The traditional ferry will take some four hours, while the high speed service, carrying over 850 persons plus 200 cars, will take around two and a half hours.  Both services will cater for foot passengers, as well as cars & lorries.

Melilla is a Spanish enclave on the coast of Morocco (like Ceuta).  It is a duty free zone, so there s no VAT, and has a fortified old town (Melilla la Vieja) perched on the hill overlooking the port which is well worth a visit.  It's a fascinating mixture of cultures - Christian, Jewish, Moslem & Hindu - with their corresponding churches, mosques, synagogues and oratories.

As soon as timetables and prices are announced we will be looking to offer excursions to Melilla and possibly onto Morocco - possibly incorporating a nights stay.  Stay tuned!!
