Our Alpujarras walking & hiking holiday routes are mostly
around the
western end of the spectacular Las Alpujarras in Andalucia,
Spain, in the very heart of the area made famous by Chris Stewart in his best selling
books such as "Driving over lemons".
The Las Alpujarras walking routes are chosen to make the best of your holiday, taking in white villages (Pueblos Blancos) such as Pampaneira, Bubión and Pitres. These walking routes will take you along Alpujarras forestry tracks, and across hillsides fragrant with wild thyme, fennel & rosemary. Groves of almond trees yield gorgeous blossom in spring, but there is always something to see be it the bubbling acequias (the ancient irrigation watercourses that channel precious water form the high mountain springs) to wandering goat herds.
Walking
or hiking here in Las Alpujarras is simply the very best way to get to know
the real Spain, as well as the beautiful countryside here in Andalucia. Las Alpujarras form the southern
foothills of the Sierra Nevada national park stretching from Granada
eastwards towards the edge of Almeria.
The park also encompasses the famous Sierra Nevada ski resort on the slopes of Mulhacen at 3,300m, from where we operate our winter season skiing , the beautiful valleys & villages around Orgiva, to the highest inhabited village in Spain, Trevelez, perched some 1476m above sea level.
A route from the market town of Orgiva, with its fascinating mix of cultures and people, to the ancient spa town of Lanjarón famous for it's water and spa treatment rooms. 6km approx. 2h
Tour of the Poquira villages passing through Bubión, Capilera, Punete Molino and Puente Chiscar. Terrific views and a great opportunity to get to know the local architecture, with its unique tinaos, which are covered terraces which sometimes link adjoining houses on the steep streets, and flat launa covered roofs. 7km approx 3h - 3h30m
Circular tour from Pitres to Pampaneira and back. More challenging cross country walk, with some steep sections but also flatter forestry tracks. 6km approx 4h-30m - 5h.
We offer a good selection of holiday walking in the Axarquia and surrounding Sierra Almijara area.
Alternatively, for shorter strolls or longer coastal walks, check out our local walking routes in and around Almuñécar, based on the Andalucia coast.
