Day excursion details

Here are some details on the day excursions we do to places such as Nerja, Frigiliana,  Granada, Ronda, Cordoba or Seville.  Ideal if you fancy exploring the fascinating Moorish history of Al Andalus in the cultural cities such as Granada or Cordoba, wandering the cobbled streets of hilltop Pueblos Blancos like Frigiliana, or in the case of Nerja caves simply wish to disappear underground to marvel at the sights in the cool.

All day trips include coach or taxi transport, guide services, admission fees etc as detailed in their individual descriptions.

Don't forget that we can also organise trips elsewhere for you in Andalucia, or even day (or longer) trips over to Africa if required - Commencing late summer 2008 we should be offering Excursions to Morocco, North Africa!

Cordoba

A full days trip to the ancient capital city of Al-Andalus -Cordoba.  Free time to wander the streets or visit the royal palace (the Alcazar) and partake of a coffee or tapas.  Then a fully escorted walking tour of the Jewish quarter, synagogue and a visit to the world famous Mosque - The Mezquita - with its jaw dropping forest of Arabic columns (entrance fee included).  Then some more free time for a final tapas before returning home.

Granada

Coach transfer from Almuñécar to Granada then time to visit the old centre with cathedral (with the royal chapel where Isabel & Ferdinand are buried), the Albaicin which is the old Moorish kasbah or medina on the hill facing the Alhambra, with its white washed houses and cobbled streets.  And, of course, the Alhambra itself, which is a collection of palaces and gardens built in the 14c under the Nazari dynasty assembled into a mighty castle. Entrance to and a guided tour of the Alhambra and the summer palace (the Generalife) with its world famous gardens is included. 

Ronda

Coach to one of Andalucía's most beautiful and famous towns, then a guided tour of the palaces, cathedrals and the amazing 180m deep Tajo gorge which splits the town into two (tickets for the cathedral and palaces included) and is spanned by the 18th century Puente Nuevo P.  Free time to visit the monuments and parks, walk along the mirador with its breathtaking view over the plains below, visit the oldest bull ring in Spain with its museum and displays, or simply to relax with a meal or tapas and soak up the atmosphere.

A full days trip to Sevilla that involves a short bus ride to view the Guadalquiver River.  Then a guided tour of the Santa Cruz Jewish quarter and the cathedral with it's famous clock tower (entrance to cathedral included).  Then you have free time to perhaps visit the royal palace, or ,maybe just to relax and watch the world go by from a delightful cafe.  The trip finishes with a further bus tour which takes in the Plaza de España.

Nerja caves

Approx 30 min from Almuñécar these are among Europe's most spectacular caverns open to the public.  They contain the worlds largest column, which is in a cavern over 30m high, along with Palaeolithic wall paintings.  The entire network is very well presented, and you are able to enter and pass through a well designed "one way" system at your own pace.

The caves are so vast (about a third of the total 4.4km discovered to date is open to the public) that every July a festival is held of flamenco, orchestral music and dance, which has attracted names such as Montserrat Caballe, Jose Carrera and Kiri Te Kanawa.  We visited just after the fiesta, and were amazed to find a full on stage and lighting rig, along with hundreds of seats in one cave!

I thought I knew caves (growing up near Cheddar caves & Wookey Hole in Somerset) but these really impressed me and are well worth a look.  Other attractions on site are gardens, museum, visitor centre, gift shop & restaurant.  Usually closed for siesta between 14:00 and 16:00, so we hit the caves in the morning, then decamp to Nerja for a tapas lunch and time for a stroll around the Balcón de Europa before returning home.

Gibraltar & Puerto Banus

A day trip to "The Rock" which will give you the opportunity to do some duty free shopping in Gibraltar's tax free zone.  Or, on this excursion you could take a 2 hr tour which includes the views from the rock, the famous apes and a tour of the second world war tunnels used as armouries and gun emplacements.  On the return journey back home you will stop at Puerto Banus by Marbella to admire the lifestyle of the rich and famous with the luxury cars and yachts.  N.B. Passport required.
