Long Weekend Activity Breaks

Long weekend activity breaks here in Spain can be an excellent way to unwind, as well as keep precious holiday allowance. Flying out after work on Thursday and returning on Sunday evening gives you three full days activities in the sun for only one day’s holiday allowance! Off-peak flights save you pounds as well – so why wait?!

Our long weekend activity breaks run off peak from the last Friday in September until the last Saturday in May. For longer breaks during peak summer times our summer family activity holidays itinerary runs. In autumn, winter & spring our winter activity holidays itinerary runs.

All our standard long weekend activity breaks include daytime airport transfers, three nights accommodation at Hotel Arrayanes Playa on a B&B basis (HB option available) plus welcome meeting with drinks & tapas and a full local area briefing.

Thursday

Airport transfers from Malaga airport as scheduled
Local area and activity briefing with complimentary drinks & tapas Airport transfers are as scheduled. More info.. We collect you at the airport and help get you checked in to your accommodation on arrival.
In your room you will have a local info file. This has street maps, local bus times, shop siesta times, local information and much more in it.
Everyone meets up early evening at a local tapas bar for a welcome drink & tapa. During this we do a quick run through of the local area and where everything is. This is followed by a full briefing on your choice of activities where we will answer any questions you may have.

Friday

PADI Discover Scuba Diving Trial Dives. A brilliant introduction to the fantastic underwater world with a superb trial dive in controlled conditions. More info..Absolutely no previous experience required! After a short introduction to the basic rules of diving and your equipment, your instructor will help you kit up. You actually start off with your feet planted firmly on the bottom. Before you know it, your confidence will grow and the fascinating underwater world will entrance you. Your instructors will pick the best side of the bay to explore based on the day’s conditions. Normally we explore along the marina side of the bay as there are usually huge shoals of fish along the rocks there. We usually spot octopus and cuttle fish among the crevices. More info and videos

Guided Snorkeling Excursion Our instructors will guide you around the best snorkeling sites and help you identify the Mediterranean fish More info.. After a full safety briefing as well as some helpful hints and tips on the right way to select and wear your dive mask and snorkel and to stop it from misting up, your guide will brief you on the different fish and other creatures such as octopus and cuttlefish you may see. We then get kitted up in summer with “shortie” style wet suits, boots and fins . In spring & autumn season or if the water is cool we may use full length ones so we can enjoy the excursion for longer without getting chilled. Video and more info.

Nerja Caves & Frigiliana excursion. This is a two site excursion day. First you will visit to the world famous caves at Nerja. After this we go up to the beautiful historic white village (pueblo blanco) of Frigiliana. More info..The caves contain the worlds largest column cavern over 30m high and is verified by the Guinness Book of Records. We do a great “self guided” visit using personal state of the art digital audio visual guides. After the caves, we go up to the award winning village of Frigiliana. Here we explore the old town with it’s lovely craft and leather shops, stopping to sample the local wine. More info and pictures

Coastal paths walk visiting Salobreña and it’s Arabic castle (inc picnic lunch). More info.. Our Coastal Paths walk follows a coastal trail to the Moorish town of Salobreña with its spectacular cliff top castle. The walk takes you along cliff top paths past ancient look out towers perched on headlands. You can stop overlooking the bright blue sea to enjoy your inclusive picnic lunch. Sections of the path overlook bays where you can often see dolphins close to the shore. Shortly after you descend through a while village, passing the last remaining sugar factory in Europe. Finally the walk arrives in Salobreña. Here you can visit the old Moorish castle overlooking the old town. There is plenty of free time to explore the Boveda and labyrinth of narrow streets. Or alternatively you can simply head for its beach and relax in a chiringuito.

Saturday

Almunecar Explore. Self guided cycling route around Almunecar old town, sea fronts and more (snack pack inc). More info.. For family or less experienced riders our self-guided Almunecar Explore is a great pick. On this you can spend a relaxing first day taking in the main beaches and cruising the sea front paseos. Explore some of the Roman ruins, statues and key parts of the paseos and visit the Arabic old town. If there’s anything on like the Easter processions or a local neighbourhood fiesta we’ll give you all the details. On most Sundays outside of the August town fiesta there is a flea market in the feria. It’s a great way for you to get orientated and find a few short cuts through the old town lanes. Here you can find the shopping lanes for later in the week. At the same time don’t forget to check out the best restaurants and tapas bars in the old town for the evenings! Much more info & videos

Sierra Almijara natural park walk. Outside ski season (Oct, Nov, May) or inclement weather. A great hike through the natural park, visiting a small pueblo blanco for refreshments before finishing in a hill side restaurant for lunch (inc) More info.. A great route down through the Sierra Almijara natural park. Starting at just over 1100m altitude we descend through the park, passing old mills and cortijos, olive & almond groves before passing through a couple of white villages, where we can stop for tapas & refreshments. Often on this walk we see mountain goats, ibex and occasionally see Bonelli’s eagles. We then descend to a lower village above Rio Verde passing through avocado, olive, nisporo, chirimoya and almond groves where we may stop in a hill side restaurant where we usually relax and finish our walk with a late lunch of their divine chicken in garlic! 11.5km in total.

Fisherman’s Path. A medium length self guided coastal walk over the sea cliffs to neighbouring La Herradura bay (picnic lunch inc). More info.. This route first takes in the western paseos (esplanades) of San Cristobal and Cotobro with their chiringuitos (beach bars). Then you climb the old Camino de los Pescadores (Fisherman’s path) to the neighbouring bay of La Herradura. More info and pictures.
